Issue a statement condemning sexual immorality and specifically pedophilia in every form from any member of the clergy. Fill the statement with honest anger and use no uncertain terms. Perhaps mention the words “worthy of impalement.”

Announce the formation of a new Inquisition consisting of laity members answerable solely to the Pope with power solely within the Catholic Church, tasked with rooting out every form of sexual immorality or evil deed within the clergy no matter how powerful the individual.

These are just a few ideas I considered while driving to work this morning. Hopefully the Pope can come up with something better since he is supposed to be the moral guide of the Church and set the tone for every serving member.

I was nodding for like 1.5 tweets... A strictly in-church and truly pious inquisition might not even be a bad idea. Iron cages sound a tad bit overkill though.

That’d be a sticking point for many. I encourage it because it creates the stigma of public humiliation while also allowing victims a sense of vindication and justice, and also all others can see the person and mark their name to protect any future victims they may endanger.

I am not advocating for swiping things under a rug. But I think you are falling for the other extreme. The one that gave the original inquisition a bad name. There are several arguments both worldly and Biblical against this.

Make sure no child ever goes through this ever again. For thousands of years extreme punishment was the deterrent for such horrific behavior. I fully relate. Doesn't work now with the modern ethics established...but it pierces the heart to say "jail" is enough to keep kids safe.
