Thanks! You’ll be pleased to know that we are enriching the # of psychedelic and psychoactive compounds. We’re also leading a national network, funded by NIH, to enhance the FDA Expanded Access program, which will be critical in testing of psychedelics for psychiatric diseases.

Terrible news- when I was an undergrad, Ron Duman and Eric Nestler were my teachers and first models of who neuroscientists were. Sad to hear of Dr Duman’s passing.

👌🏻 big hope for 2020 - more discourse on this. Eager to hear what, if any, policy projects are underway to hit the sweet spot of regulation. (A wild west of anyone calling themselves a shaman and dishing out shrooms to all comers just as bad an outcome)

Possible explanation for our recent finding in humans that ketamine’s antidepressant effect is opioid receptor dependent? Endogenous opioids? Interesting work from the Malinow lab!

For my inaugural tweet, I would like to assert the fundamental relevance of the anesthetized state for all of biology. As support for this claim, please see the recent article in Current Biology by my colleague Max Kelz (from Penn anesthesia) and I:

Hiya, Science Twitter. As per usual, this is my semiannual request for seminar speakers who would like to come give a talk at SJSU. We are a small and poor department, so the best I can offer you is parking and lunch with me. Oh, and also an audience of amazing MS students.

Great paper, but 'implications for improving behaviours & policies' is a little disconcerting, shading into the missteps of the 60s. How can this be distinguished from 'you have the wrong values, but if you take these drugs, it'll help you have the right values- the ones we have'
