Any of the books would have been a worthy winner. Congratulations, Michael Ondaatje!

Oh, The Blue Flower by Penelope Fitzgerald! Fond memories...

-
Oh I loved this! First heard of Novalis after reading Sophie's World and then came across this. Read everything I could lay my hands on by Penelope Fitzgerald afterwards too :)

@HeyCrossy read it? -
Yes. Years ago. For me, it’s one of those award winning books... you know... like The life of pi.

You gave away the choosing to the PUBLIC? Knowing that in all probability many if not most of the voters had never even READ The English Patient, but only seen the film? Very irresponsible, in my opinion.
-
True History of the Kelly Gang by Carey or The Sea by Banville. I've read most of the winners. Had a hard time even finishing English Patient.

Beautiful book! Takes on even more meaning when read alongside Ondaatje's In the Skin of a Lion.
-
Another great book of his! I never walk across the Bloor Street Viaduct without thinking of Ondaatje.

What happened to “Midnight’s Children” winning the “Booker of Bookers”? The Man Booker Prize is turning into even more of an exercise in marketing for itself. Please return to concentrating on the literature and stop concentrating on your “brand”. It’s unseemly.
