By this argument, many wipipo ain’t American citizens. Because if your ancestor was illegal then he wasn’t a citizen then your ancestor kid wasn’t a citizen and his kid wasn’t a citizen blah blah you ain’t a citizen. Right?

Great piece on the importance of words, I consider using this example with my students. Unfortunately, I think there is a word missing right before the correction of the critical passage in the text: it should probably say "who _are_ foreigners".
