Excellent book but I got a little lost among all the characters. If I read it again I’d keep basic notes on who everyone was and what they did.

A few other notes re: The Dream Machine - 1) It is laugh out loud funny. A surprise! 2) Looks like nothing else and people stare at it on the Underground. 3) Screenwriting rule 1 is every scene has to either advance action or reveal character (so you accept a decision/action

later. The best do the 2 in 1 (in Coen Brothers there is no scene typeA; scene typeB). I've been feeling this when reading this book: spot-on (i.e. often funny) character insights that then lead on to action, scientific realisations, research decisions. Brilliant (both senses).
