There’s no need for parents of 18 yo FTM (a whole group of them that started in high school) to worry about rapid access to testosterone without preliminary counseling. Extra testosterone in the female body is perfectly healthy. And don’t worry about effect on younger siblings.

You have a point there about fertility- FTM are strongly advised to get a hysterectomy within 5 years of starting testosterone. I wonder if the ICATH clinic my 18yo went to that gave out a T Rx in 1 day and is run by a trans woman adequately counsel about the loss of fertility?

Calling them stupid is unfair. The way taking hormones to be one’s “authentic self” is glorified right now and no alternatives are provided, it’s become too easy to be misled regarding the total effects of HRT. My kid expected to need counseling. Surprise- no counseling needed.
