If hate groups can appropriate Pepe they can do the same to other memes and even Blizz IP's, and what then? Will Blizz remove iconic OverWatch characters bc they might have appeared in racist cartoons on 4chan? Will Kreygasm be banned if a group of trolls uses it as a rape emote?

I get your strong feelings, i do. Blizz/riot/etc are trying to reduce toxicity in their games, and thats a great goal! Racists have historically taken things that arent theres and used it for their own goals. But, what can be done when the alt-right uses it for hate? Ignore it?

If Blizz wants a less toxic game they can start by listening to the reports that we the players make everyday and that seem to not be heard most of the time, be it for flaming or an inapropriate user name etc. The problem with banning alt-right characters is that the alt-right

can use any character as a hate symbol: just slap a swastika on the characters arm. So if you're ok with banning Pepe you're ok with banning all characters. So yes, imo you should definitely ignore some weirdos that hang out all day on 4chan spamming racist emotes.

https://kotaku.com/riot-blizzard-and-twitch-are-teaming-up-to-fight-toxi-1823941488 … The Fair Play Alliance is a coalition made up of over 30 different companies, including Riot, Blizzard, Twitch, CCP, and Epic, that aims to share research and lessons learned around gaming communities in the hopes of cutting down on “disruptive behavior.”

That's great that Blizz is trying to find new ways to stop tocix behaviour, but my point is that banning Pepe is pointless. Tbh I haven't got my hopes up for that working out, since these 30 companies that couldn't handle their own communities are now expected to be able to

handle another 29 communities? Also, racist memes don't come exclusively from gaming communities, so even if they ban all toxic players there will still be folks online apropriating memes for the alt-right
And I'm aware that my arguments depends on assumptions, but it's fair1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

to assume that trolls are gonna troll, so I don't agree that it's a slipery slope argument. Either way we can agree to disagree Dave

i know I'm the minority here and it's a sensitive subject so I did my best to not be offensive, but Blizz's aproach to solve this issue seems short sighted and flawed. I just wanted to share my opinion and help out the pepe outcasts1 reply 0 retweets 1 like
