Just a friendly reminder that when someone is experiencing negative emotions, phrases like "Cheer up!" and "It's not that big of a deal" do not help. In fact, they usually make the person feel even worse.

You'd think right? I wish. Responses like that make sharing your genuine negative feelings harder bc you're risking being made to feel worse. :( I try to remind myself that different levels of social experience/capabilities are usually behind it. They do mean well. But AHH

That's a shame, since just sharing a bad experience and talking it out can in itself help you feel better, whether that discussion leads to a solution to the problem or not. People who've done that to me usually didn't care about my problems, so I've learned to ignore them
