Once you understand that the carbon tax is designed to take proportionally more from the wealthy than it is from those at the bottom, you start to see where all that pushback is coming from. The rich didn’t get that way subsidizing the poor and they’re not about to start now.

An awful + disgusting perspective that regressive is better than proportional. 'The years from the end of World War II to the 1970s were ones of substantial economic growth and broadly shared prosperity. Incomes grew rapidly and at roughly the same rate up and down the income

2. ladder, roughly doubling in inflation-adjusted terms between the late 1940s and early 1970s.' With the RW Neocon control of society under Reagan/Thatcher the shift away from the working+middle classes to the richest began [via transfer mechanisms - monetarism over Keynes,

3. output over demand, capital over labour, corporations (remember GFC?) over society] and with MSM Corporate propaganda {Murdoch, Koch Bros-Tea Party, front 'think tanks') the purpose of Govt was not national economic dvlp but plundering State assets for the wealthy. Why the RW

4. in Australia plundered science, research, education and health budgets as formerly a national low cost for all benefit (costs borne by the state so individuals/businesses could progress e.g. health care bills, primary health outcomes, CSIRO ) gave way to RW Neocon

5. justification of entrepreneurial justification, wealth creators (i.e. corporate welfare) over national societal concepts. Steve I loathe your perspective. Q. What national industry did not get up without Fed Govt assistance? Airlines? Car production? Far less than u think.

I think you’ve misinterpreted my opinion here as I agree with everything you’ve replied with. I’m at the bottom and I love the carbon tax. The pushback I’m referring to is from those at the top.

Indeed, I have - sorry there. I'm just triggered by the RW bs at the moment. My apols.

We need to talk about how carbon tax helps average Canadians. I calculated the amount of gas my family burns in a year and at .11 a litre in additional tax and the rebate, we will make over $200.00 a year in SK. A Win not a Loss!

You do realize that big corporations and the conservatives are winning the battle and shaping the argument when it comes to the carbon tax even though they have no alternatives or solutions
-
Sadly yes and that’s odd given it’s origins are conservative
-
Guess when conservation of nature meets their anti tax ideology, greed is the winner for them. Conservation of nature only matters until they think their pocket book is threatened. Particularly annoying since fee and dividend doesn't even threaten the wealth of most of them. :/

And everyone knows trickle down is a myth. Bubble up works and should be implemented more often.

I suspect they hate the carbon tax because it will cost their corporate overlords money. They’ve been ordered to fight it, and they’re on a short leash. It’s a redistribution of wealth from big polluting companies to ordinary citizens, so Cons are against it.

Welll.....in fairness the credit does not go back to the taxpayer unless the specific province opts out! If they participate then they get the $$$$ and it does not come back to us directly! This part of it I DONT like!
-
But in AB, we get CT rebates if your income (single person) is less than $47K or (family) less than $95K. Those rebates are $300 and $450.

An effective carbon tax rises steadily over time and reaches an endpoint of zero revenue, at which point the mission is accomplished. Watch out for C-tax proposals that don’t ramp.
