Consider the assets. Lando has already infiltrated the palace. Luke then sends the droids in, followed by Leia and Chewbacca. Lando is working as a guard, the droids are working as servants. Leia initiates the plan by thawing Han.

The problem arose when Jabba captures Leia and Han following the thawing. “I gotta get you outta here,” Leia says. Where? How far would they have gotten with Han in the full grip of hibernation sickness?

Jabba then awakens the next morning to find Han gone, flies into a fury, locks down the palace. The problem then is not getting in, but getting OUT. Lando springs Chewie and the droids, Leia grabs the stashed Han, Luke’s role is getting the DOOR open.

The reason R2 has the lightsaber? Backup in case Luke is detained or there are complications—Lando or Leia can try and use the lightsaber to get out.

The fact that Leia is captured thawing Han and that Luke is able to walk into the palace AT ALL is where the plan deviates. There’s definitely a plan, though. There’s nothing baffling about this to me.
