Make mandatory private paid mental health screenings requisite to gun ownership. Make it mandatory to have it renewed every 2 years. Have states or the federal government regulate the cost, use it as tax (think vehicle inspections) and put that towards infrastructure.

Make the penalty for weapon violations the same as felony level manslaughter.

What happens when someone fails their psych eval?

Take their guns away, put 'em in the database. Find them with a weapon? 20 years min.

Well, I certainly like the idea in the name of public safety. Does it have to be federal, though? A state-run version might be easier to implement...AND you could even tack it onto state licensing offices!

Adding psych eval requirements to present state licensing stipulations could definitely be doable! The next step would be to find a local advocacy group or even a state senator to propose the idea...ooh! Or start a petition!

Nothing will happen until after the November elections. Unless @SenSchumer thinks it would be a good idea now.
