I think I just had a #showerthought on how to solve this mass shooting epidemic. Obviously, banning guns isn't going to work, and will only cause public outrage and protests from the #2A crowd. How about we just take guns and make them a pain in the ass to own? @POTUS

What if we created a regulatory agency, you know- like the DMV, where gun owners would take their weapons, licensure, and recent health screening documents and paid a ridiculous fee to keep their weapons? Tax the shit out of it.

Make mandatory private paid mental health screenings requisite to gun ownership. Make it mandatory to have it renewed every 2 years. Have states or the federal government regulate the cost, use it as tax (think vehicle inspections) and put that towards infrastructure.

Make the penalty for weapon violations the same as felony level manslaughter.
