My father...God rest his soul...was a staunch Republican and the smartest man I ever knew. My grandfather was a Baptist deacon and a man who lived his faith every single day. They were both Southerners. Neither would recognize (or claim) today's GOP. "The G.O.P. is rotting."
My grandfather was a millionaire before he was thirty, a multi-millionaire before he was fifty, and disowned all his children but one by the time he died. My great-grandfather was a member of a fundamentalist church. And I bet they would.
