After watching @Turwinkle, @Wyrmcast and others stream games, I am forced to make an admission: I don't get this at all.
Isn't it more fun to play games than to watch someone else? I really just don't understand how spectating video games achieves thingness.

most people dont watch just for the game itself, but for the personality of the person playing, and sharing in it with them

also (with interactive streamers) being part of the community and feeling welcomed by the streamer is very nice :)
