The “on the ground” footage is horrifying. I couldn’t get through the graphic devastation. My God. Such evil.

Do we know if it was an accident or something more?

The official explanation is a fireworks factory exploded due to an “accident” was last I read. This has garnered a world wide “you’re lying” to the government by most media and more. No way an explosion wave that size from fireworks. We shall see.

2750 tons of ammonium nitrate was in a boat on the dock that had been sitting there unchecked for 6 years.. is what their Govt is claiming

If this is true- that’s equally concerning... in a boat? Six years? Basically this catastrophe waiting to happen.. precisely.

From reports I could find, that was about a hundred cargo canisters of ammonium nitrate that was confiscated from a Georgian cargo ship headed to Mozambique. Something was wrong with how they stored it on the ship, so the Lebanese confiscated it and moved it to a warehouse.

This is the sort of thing a properly functioning government would be able to move and store safely. However, the sectarian power-sharing system Lebanon has right now has been more about profit than function for the past twenty-five years. And now it’s all falling apart.
