I vote based on policy. I either vote for progressives or, in big elections -- should another corporate candidate get hamfisted into the nomination -- I usually go third party. Often Green party. I make sure down-ballot gets support, however.
Cool. That suggests you believe there’s some benefit from engaging with the system that way. That probably puts you more midward than someone else who would say that engaging with the textbook definition of liberal democracy is compromising with the bourgeois.

Pushing from the outside and the inside will yield better results, than doing only one or the other. Voting is not the end all, be all. And the past 40 years has shown that voting has been failing us more and more. I still participate for the progressives, but I'm not deluded.

Which maybe makes you cynical, but not an outright tankie or freeganist. I think political engagement outside of voting is indeed the responsible thing to do, but it’s up to each of us to decide if the system can be bent to our policy goals with a convincing enough argument.
