  1. 100% of the time I put an honest effort into something I'm rewarded. Without fail.

With EVs moving the value back up the stack to the manufacturer and away from oil companies all of a sudden manufacturing at scale in Detroit becomes possible again.

I can tell you from personal experience that even small bus companies spend thousands on fuel each month alone. Could that wasted money finance EV drivetrain conversion kits? Probably.

It's time to accelerate development towards a commercial-ready affordable electric bus. The solutions out there right now are terribly expensive and unreliable. I don't know how we're going to pull it off - and we don't have the cash to build even one - but we'll figure it out.

I'm really sick of spending tens of thousands of dollars each month on diesel fuel, diesel engine parts and engine oil. Each dollar is another vote towards trashing our air further and poisoning the planet. We're doing the same as everyone else and we're complicit in the damage.

A few days later and this message is still bouncing around the world -so it's obvious there are a lot of you small business owners out there and you're feeling some sort of way in our age of propped-up hypergrowth. Let's stick together and promote the power of small biz.

Finally, let's say you're not in the black this month. That's ok. Businesses float on cycles. Hopefully you've saved up some dough to ride it through. But if not, closing up shop is okay too. The skills and experience lie within you, not some brand name. You got this.

If you've pulled off the RARE AND AMAZING feat of a sustainable small business give yourself the permission to chill. Take a minute to look around you and realize what good you've done. You're making jobs and opportunity and wealth each and every day.

And if you've pulled this off in literally any industry I promise it's 50,000 times cooler than you feel from within the thick of it. You're just thinking of your challenges when you're down on yourself - but your customers only see the part that makes them thrilled you're alive.

If your small business makes enough to pay the bills and also pay yourself a fair salary, you're 100% successful. Don't let the rare big money story get into your head; getting profitable regardless of the size is extremely difficult and rare.

Building an audience versus renting one is absolutely harder but it's yours to keep once you get to the other side.

Conversely, you can take the hard road and work with individual publishers and conferences and get really amazing results that you'll get to keep yourself for the long haul rather than renting your reach from a network.

So the same goes for manipulative privacy invading ad networks like Facebook. Yes, you'll get your result, but at what true cost? Realize those cheap clicks are being subsidized by some pretty evil stuff.

Using Facebook is like buying that $5 shirt at h&m. You just know that there's tons of pollution and human rights violations behind that price tag. There's just no way to manufacture a shirt and a sustainable way at that price point.

To answer a question I've been getting: yes, IT IS harder to grow without ad tools like Facebook and Google. Harder, slower and more expensive. But lots of good things are worth the increased difficulty.

For the first time in 30 years, Michigan Central Station has heat... 650,000 gallons of water pumped from station, and lots of very old whiskey bottles with whiskey in them in the walls.

There are tons of great models from Europe and South America where it's just not profitable to hold empty buildings for years or decades. Those kind of rules inspire action and movement.

Consider a better world where landlords have an incentive to get rid of empty buildings at a fair price so that owner operators can purchase and maintain their own place of business. That's the kind of business environment I want to exist in.

Until the cost of holding empty buildings is higher through exponential tax increases we will always be held back by real estate speculation. Thousands of buildings across Detroit are laying dormant because some dentist wants to make an easy buck. That's not what property is for.
