Right now our law states you can use an expired license as long as it hasn't been expired for over 4 years. Are they going to remove that criteria? If identity verification is truly all they care about, then it really shouldn't matter if its expired or not.

It will affect new potential voters ability to vote. DL office closures coupled with the Bureau of Vital Statistics’ backlog (stretching 2-3 months) to acquire a birth certificate, in order to obtain an acceptable picture ID, will lead to inability of some to obtain a Voter ID.

My license expired in April and I have not renewed because of Covid. Didn't stop me from voting in the runoff last week. They accepted it. Still, hope to renew before November.

FWIW, if you search outside of the metro area, you can find a DPS with closer appointment dates. We found a DPS office an hour away from North Austin with appointments just 3 days out instead of months.
