I drafted a solidarity statement for other former Texas Observer staffers who oppose shuttering the magazine, and who want to urge the TDF board to work with staff on a way forward. (Freelancers, subscribers, and others are also invited to sign on!) docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI

I'm sharing some @TexasObserver articles that have changed my life, work, or both, with an ask that you chip in on the gofundme to save this essential, storied publication. It's cool to see so many friends + people I admire as donors to this campaign 1/ gofundme.com/f/laid-off-tex

Help us keep incubating great talents in journalism: gofundme.com/f/laid-off-tex

โ€œRight now we need more, not less, independent journalism that speaks truth to power. Itโ€™s a devastating loss for journalism and for Texans. I canโ€™t overstate how much @TexasObserver shaped and inspired generations of journalists, or what an important incubator of talent it was.โ€

Found this letter, published in the Columbia Journalism Review in the 70s. Important message then, important message now. "The Observer has fought many a good fight and, not that infrequently, won some of them. Please help the Observer win this one"

We are having many discussions about our future. For now, all we can ask publicly is that you support our GoFundMe while we wait on the board to respond. Thank you and we appreciate each and every one of you who believes in the Observer. gofundme.com/f/laid-off-tex (๐Ÿงต 5/5)

A lot of people are asking about long term plans for the TXO, but until the board moves to change course our hands are tied. Our letter gave them until close of business tomorrow to respond. In brief, what we're asking is for the board to show faith in TXO & our future: (๐Ÿงต3 / ?)

The money donated to our fundraiser will go toward payroll and other major expenses to keep our doors open, IF our board votes to undo the closure and cancel the layoffs. If they don't, it goes directly to the laid off staff. We are still waiting for a formal response. (๐Ÿงต2 / ?)

this sucks. it was often horrible to work at the observer, but it was also often very fun. it gave me my start; it's where i met some of the most talented journalists working today, many of whom i'm glad to call friends. in memoriam, here are some of my favorite TxO stories: twitter.com/sewellchan/staโ€ฆ

About 200K would keep TXO alive for another month, if the board reverses their decision. We're hoping for generosity, as well as looking everywhere we can for matching donors to provide more. This would be a lifeline to push off layoffs and buy us time to find benefactors/grants.

Wait we can save the @TexasObserver for 100k? If you have Fb please put the link up. Itโ€™s one of a handful of local pรบblica doing the heavy lifting out here. If you ever imagined a future where purple Texas can turn blue, please help, twitter.com/eddie1perez/stโ€ฆ
