The chaos of war gives men the opportunity to abuse their power to get what they want - money, sex, blood. Morals erode and people do what they can get away with. This is a comment on the nature of the individual. This transcends any politics.

Yes, and mine was not a comment on this point of view of yours, which I partly agree with, but rather the examples being used to draw the parallel.

OK fair I could have used a lot of different examples... thanks for the discussion. If you want to think more about human nature, a good quote to digest is by Aleskandr Solzhenitsyn: "Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes..." look it up!
