bio-punk idea : CRISPR a virus, to automatically secrete a set amount of nootropic into bloodstream directly, constantly. for years on end pros : adds points to performance and IQ cons : possible cancer, infection, lifetime antibiotic use, or ultimately death risk

Alternate suggestion: engineer some benign members of your microbiome to do the same. You get the nootropics, they get the cancer risks - and you can antibiotics them away at will if there are any complications.

thats what the virus would be a vector microbiome bacteria can still have bad side effects, like coliacs and other such gut diseases bacteria i think are harder to control used virus as example, as they already use them as vectors see retrovirus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_vector#Retroviruses …

Sure, but this implies you are hacking your own genome - splicing in changes to cause your cells to produce the nootropics. Screw up and you are just screwed. I am suggesting hacking bacteria is lower risk: you can flush them at will and start over. Not ZERO risk, but lower.

Bacteria are probably more feasible. Example: they already make B vitamins in your intestines.
