I had a chilling realization that a lot of people really sincerely think that those who disagree with them (on any groupthink item) are subhuman nazis. Having grown up in a country where every family has made tremendous sacrifices to defeat the actual nazis, I just want to puke.

I think it has something to do with the rise of narcissism in the west. Narcissists take opposition as an insult, hence the self protective rage. And defensively they tend to utilise black and white thinking: 'either you are with me or against me'.
