I always roll my eyes whenever I hear people say "the US *won* the Cold War." It's a total myth. My reading of history suggests the people of the USSR -- from top to bottom -- simply ceased believing in the viability of a political/economic model that never worked as promised.
You know what brought down the USSR? It wasn't any ism. It was the incompetence of bureaucrats, blind adherence to political correct algorithms, and the fact that people had to constantly publicly lie. A combination of theoretical respect and practical absurdity. Short memory?
