Thank you!! What's killing me is that every element of this obvious dystopia that we are heading toward (if we don't snap out of it like about now) is being explained away in respectable terms. It is that "respectability" that's putting people to sleep.
yes the problem is that by calling it "science" they get insecure intellectuals to embrace it (squelching their own unease by thinking "gee, i must not be smart enough to grasp why this is a good idea, i'd better shut up or everyone will know i'm not as smart as i pretend to be)
(actually i shouldn't say "the" problem, there are many...but couching oppression in academic/technical terms does help hide the iron fist a bit)
