I have been in this country for many years, all my adult life. In the past few years, I have been observing a striking and dangerous development. It is almost as if somebody has been stressing people out on purpose, on a physiological level, way beyond ideas or disagreements.
Up until a few years ago, my American-born friends had no problem discussing observations or taking professional advice from people w/ different political beliefs. Not anymore! It is as if a non-identical political preference disqualifies one from having an opinion on any topic.
It's very clear to my senses that this reaction is mostly due to the perpetual state of war-like emotional overexcitement, shared by many of us. It was true even before the lockdowns but obviously, now it's much worse b/c we've been living in an abnormal state for months.
