When my friends use the word "disinformation" synonymously with "things I don't believe," my heart sinks becasue the worst and the most dangerous kind in every culture has always been the one coming from the establishment. Somehow, westerners are the last ones to figure it out.

What I am trying to say is that people in less prosperous cultures know how to process establishment perspectives through peasant senses, and to practice skepticism--for a good reason. It'll happen here, too, as the economy nosedives... but painful to think about it.

People complain about foreign powers, and fine, it exists, and everybody is doing it to everybody. But is it any different when chemical, tech or pharma companies do exact same thing and hire trolls to yell at unfavorable opinions, or bribe academics, or rig research?

There really is no safe space when it comes to media. As long as the desire to understand the world for the beauty of it (and not for commercial reasons) is treated with contempt, we're going to continue living in a post-truth world. Or pre-truth world, because beauty is there.
