In practical terms, there is even a bigger problem! It is human nature to perceive "the official point of view of my echo chamber" as "facts" and "the official point of view of my opponents" as "disgusting propaganda that evil people disseminate and only stupid people fall for."
I am seeing it unfold here and now in every echo chamber, which makes all participants bond with each other proudly without solving problems. Somehow, the art of changing one's mind when presented with new facts is not a part of the accepted cultural game, and it is tragic.
