I am serious. Everybody should watch "Heart of a Dog," the film made after a censored 1924 Soviet play. It is witty and funny and tragic, but also deeply applicable to 2020, and watching it could prevent a lot of bruises.

The problem with the generation gap is that it prevents every new generation from learning from the experience and mistakes of the earlier generations in a productive, loving way. We are a civilization that wants to be a teenager who never grows up.

Asserting one's will upon the world is very pleasant, without a doubt. In a way, it's what we all live for. However, the idea that we can break the laws of physics or human psychology without creating huge problems for the future generations is a delusion, as it has always been.

Previous generations more or less had the same historical reading requirements as their elders (ableit a small number of educated). These days we have history by meme. It's impossible to argue with a group who believe in their own moral superiority due to pure naivete.

I have thought about it a lot, I think the problem is truly civilizational rather than current. (The only things that're different today are scale and speed, it is easy to use the internet to create an illusion of ubiquity). 1/
