Sadly, the technique of weakening target communities by creating a generation gap has been used by every non-lazy conquest-minded entity on Earth, including European colonizers, industrialists in need of factory labor, new Soviet authorities who HAD to break family ties, etc.
Today's aggressively binary thinking about almost every topic can be partially blamed on the two decades of relying on google for info while simultaneously having to please the machine when you write (writing for SEO, memes, etc). It rewires the brain.
