It's by far a millennial and zoomer movement. The youth of this country have zero postive historical memory outside of GW Bush and a fratty patriotism. Obama hope subdued. I fault decades of cultural decadence but it seems we really have become too weak to resist mob rule.
I hate to say it but @mtaibbi is spot on. Staying human, nuanced, and thinking out loud, with love, is an inappropriate rebellion all of a sudden—which I personally don't accept. Language has been weaponized before so many times in history, including in my birth homeland. I am stunned by linguistic and psychological similarities between the people who are just coming into adulthood right now and the generation of my grandparents in the USSR.
