When I look at the political / corporate arrangement here through the eyes of someone who grew up abroad, I see obvious corruption on the level of, say, the Soviet Union. There are different ways to look at it. 1. Politics is a cesspool. Such is life. 2. OMG what horror.
What blows my mind (and I mean it without any sarcasm) is a strong tradition of only being vocally mad at the corruption in the other camp. Universally. Whoever came up with this type of fragmentation of public discourse must have been very clever (and also evil).
I wonder if the practice of turning everything into show business and an ideological standout, even if it prevents real solutions from happening, has something to do with several decades of relatively comfortable living (something that no longer exists but the memory lingers)?
