Or maybe, not in the minority, but each major eco chambers' driving forces with the deepest pockets and the most bullying power are yelling so loudly that everybody who hears their yelling loses their mind to stress.

What I am seeing based on personal experience, think what you want of it, is that the collective fear reaction is a reaction of an abused person who thinks that the abuser is their only friend, and as painful as it is, abuse is a sign of love.
