Actually it's a myth that anyone educated thought the world was flat. As for the uneducated, they simply didn't think about the shape of the world. Why was the myth created? To make it sound like America invented and could thus patent a round world!
What if we live in the middle ages, and just like in the middle ages, the crazies who think that the earth is round are frowned upon, and those who repeat familiar soundbites are the darlings of the day?
