In terms of doing something about it, history is proof that any glaring issue gets dissected and analyzed in depth a million times over by rather brilliant people—but it remains a water cooler convo until $hit hits the fan, and previously comfy peeps get impacted personally.
And when that happens, the most virulent power addicts typically use the opportunity of social flux to position themselves on top of the restructured distribution chain. I swear, I didn't want to write a socio-economic thesis on Twitter but here we go.
Therefore— and also based on the history of my original home country that jumped from one "ism" to another several times in the 20th century without becoming less cruel—I'm convinced that focusing on the"ism" doesn't solve the problem, which is existential.
When our senses are muddled, we take any "ism," and then allow deranged power addicts to lead us and define our priorities. Power can be expressed through direct wealth (aka "capitalism") or sitting on top of public distribution chains (aka "socialism"). Different but similar.
It is my belief that for things to get better, what needs to happen is a shift in how we approach life. We need to feel the awe because treating other people well doesn't work as a moral imperative, it comes from feeling whole.
