Our civilization is ailing from the algorithmic approach. It is possible to analyze our ailment rationally but the abilities of the intellect are limited, and the part that's broken is not the intellect, it's the heart, the child-like part of us that encourages awe and humility.
The machine runs on the notion that it's okay to transform LIFE into UTILITY for the benefit of a few particularly broken individuals or—in a society with a different "ism"—for the Correct Idea.
But it's never okay to transform life into utility. Never.
