Is the self-refreshing Twitter feed that moves away in the middle of your reading it simply bad desktop design, or is it one of those evil tricks Big Tech does on purpose wear out the "consumers of digital content" so that we give up on human agency and follow the robots?

That said, I think my theory still stands. It's been studied how being forced to wait for no reason (like, sitting in traffic) or having no control over small things negatively impacts the sense of well-being and the ability to focus. 1/

People who design today's trendy flows cannot NOT know this. Fighting w/ automatic faucets to produce water or having a feed run away before your eyes are obvious & unnecessary negative stimulants, while tech brands are notorious for "interesting" experiments on their users.

Those experiences create a sense of helplessness in people and a perception that invasive, disrespectful "progress" of this kind is inevitable evolution. In 10 years, pundits will "discover" it although it is immediately obvious if blind greed is removed.
