I suspect that human beings are not capable of relating to too many people at the same time. Therefore, we are not designed to live in a sane fashion within empires and under monopolies.

So far, history has supported my theory. You look at the underbelly of the "march for progress," and what you find underneath the shiny surface is broken lives, a poisoned environment, and trapped people. I don't believe it is coincidental.
