Before we—communities of people—relied on systems, we relied on human relationships and acquired wisdom for good decision-making. As human relationships degraded due to a corrupt values foundation, policing through systems became necessary. (also Twitter really sucks for this)
Right now, since wisdom is a forgotten art—certainly well-forgotten among high ranks—we do need rules to make things sane (yay, making corporations accountable). But people are not defective machines. We should not strive to be machines, period. Machines are joyless.
