It is perfectly fine to believe that copyright is outdated and to express such views by giving away OWN work for free. However, the well-fed pundits spreading copyleft gospel typically charge $ for their books and lectures—and get mad when somebody infringes on THEIR property.

It also doesn't currently exist. Therefore, demanding that artists get on their knees and give away their work for free because some well-fed pundit thinks it's a great idea, it disingenuous. Especially when said pundit is paid by a huge corporate entity profiting from theft.

There is no need to frame copyright as a "theological" value. Doing so is a sleight of hand by tech corporations. Copyright is a convention that allows creative professionals to eat, end of story.

If tech corporations and their pet pundits want to be generous with intellectual property, they can let go of their own (as well as of property they bought with the money made on theft) and let the people have it. Lead by example! Just a thought.
