My problem with irresponsible speech, including in journalism, is not political. My problem stems from being intimately familiar with how irresponsible speech can cause harm to innocent people. What's giggles and book deals for the uninvolved, is sweat and tears for the impacted.
But the problem is that once something's been clownized, it loses its connection to the physical world, to the love, to the mystery that makes life worth living. And you know what, it is really annoying when you are only of interest as a topic, not as a human being.
