I wonder what the excuse for focusing on the daily political soap opera would be when it turns out that we really needed to focus on standing up to the attack on the environment and on our health and dignity.

Sometimes I think that the experience of having to fight for your dignity and to defend your life and basic biological safety has its positive side effects. Noise and vacuous media gossip become infinitely boring, and physical world and human relationships, rich and important.

I am fascinated with the entire genre of palatable, entertaining, salon type conversations about matters of life and death. To me it gives away an assumption that only 'the others' will be physically impacted, while we, the educated city dwellers, can just continue writing books.
