Well, reality is different for everybody because, perception, but the desire to adhere to fundamental facts and fundamental decency (or a lack of thereof) is what often determines the outcome... Seem like the pressure to eat and and be on top numbs that desire.

The pressure to eat is understandable—lack of concern about whether others are also eating is less so. We attained freedom from institutional constraints in the ‘60’s. But we failed to create new frameworks for community values, inadvertently unraveling our connective tissue.

True. I do think that the mistake was made centuries ago when the power of cultivated and encouraged human decency was replaced by algorithmic safeguards. It keeps biting us in our collective ass. Perhaps, nothing can replace individual honorability or compensate for its decline.
