Often, there is a drastic difference between one's public persona and one's actual private opinions. So every time I read heated exchanges, I wonder what everybody would say if the conversation took place in private, outside of the framework of 'treats' and 'electric shocks.'
And actually, I would argue that amplifying the need to say things that are 'rewarded' vs 'true,' in a culture that was driven by commercial popularity and not very mature to begin with, is one of the worst consequences of social media. It's a competition of presentations.
