I'm showing my ignorance but i wonder if darker skin has less subsurface scattering effects, like how lower albedo has less diffuse reflection?

I played around with this for a while but it was some time ago, but didn't take any notes (I'm not always smart). It seemed to me in the case of my limited style of subsurface it didn't make much difference if the hue was a "proper red". These shots are using the same ss mat id.

Check out Craig Donner’s paper that parametrizes SSS by amount of melanin and hemoglobin: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.226.4533&rep=rep1&type=pdf …

Real world film/tv makeup pros put more of slightly shiny makeup on people with darker skin to get better lighting, countouring and visibility of facial details on camera. Makes sense to do the same with adjusting gloss / maybe even F0 to get a similar effect.
