I'm watching Fred Zinnemann's film version of Robert Bolt's "A Man for All Seasons." It's better on stage, but it's pretty damned good on screen, and Paul Scofield's performance is sheer perfection, never to be bettered (though Frank Langella came close on Broadway in 2008).

Did Scofield win an Oscar for his performance?

He is one of eight actors to have won both a Tony and and Oscar for playing the same role on stage and screen.

He is one of those actors whose name is associated with one role in America, but he likely has a rich acting background in theatre. I did not know that he won the Tony.

He was one of England's half-dozen greatest stage actors, but didn't particularly like making films. (Among many other things, he created the title role in the original stage production of "Amadeus.")

One scene from his performance of "Amadeus" was filmed. Here it is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvPIjzp9NPc …

OMG I now wish he had been in the film (apologies to Murray Abraham)

          F. Murray was every bit as good, I think—I only wish that Scofield's entire stage performance had been taped.

Scofield and Callow! That must've been great. Original Broadway cast not too shabby either--Ian McKellen and Tim Curry.

Yeah, I'm sure they were pretty nifty as well.
