    So what I'm hearing is leagues need good WFTDA reps with a solid understanding of inclusion and abelism with the ability to actually challenge and push policy and the courage to stir the pot.

    these clarifications are harmful, and we will not let this go.

    There is a real risk that this will go unchallenged and many disabled people will suddenly be barred from our sport. Don't let this happen

    ALSO it says you can't actively participate in derby activities.... soooooo.... am I not allowed to show up to practice on, or off, skates on Friday? Or at all again until they sort this out?

    We have had people NSO for us who used wheelchairs, a photographer who uses a wheelchair sometimes comes to our bouts to take photos, I have people on my team who use anxiety medication. There is NO FUCKING WAY that we are banning them from our bouts and practices.

    Okay , let's talk about some potentially illegal and definitely discriminatory stuff recently put out by in the name of Health & Safety. They recently released some "Risk Management Clarifications" which you can see here:

    Another thought on the Risk Management topic. Roller derby is played in countries around the world, with often different regulations on health and safety, personal liability, healthcare and more. If we’re a worldwide sport, why is our sanctioning policy dictated by a US insurer?

    This is some ableist, discriminatory shit. Like many others with a disability/chronic illness, I am currently banned from even participating in practice. : the least you can do is retract this while it’s under revision.

    Every person regardless of medications, movement apparatus or special assistance should be welcome in roller derby. I am outraged that the guidelines approach for those less able is to exclude them.

    So technically I'm not allowed to skate if I've had a diazepam, which I occasionally have had to take to stave off panic attacks at practice? Buuuuuullshit

    In fact if you look at the full policy, you're banned from "any derby activity" not just skating, and the list of banned drugs (even if prescribed) is extensive. That's right you can drive a car or fly a plane, but no NSOing for you!

    Agreed. Cause as it currently reads, I wouldn't be able to NSO. I'm prescribed a medication that "may cause dizziness" 🙃 I love derby, but also my health.

    I’m currently on stimulants for my ADHD and I’m professional medical staff for my league. According to this I wouldn’t be able to participate, and trust me, you do not want to see me off my meds, I’m not functional. This is ridiculous.

    I don’t feel comfortable disclosing my medical info to the people I skate with. My anti cancer meds and my antidepressants both fall into the categories listed. I’m out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Between my Adderall and my Wellbutrin, I'm just a fucking walking and skating calamity. Heaven fucking forbid that I were to take a benzo for a panic attack. I mean, my gabapentin would qualify as having "an affect" on my motor skills, too. JFC…

    I have so many questions. WFTDA how did this policy get published? How on earth would you enforce it? How am I supposed to know if a new prescription from my doctor now bans me from Derby in any capacity? (when the derby threshold seems more stringent than the DVLAs for example)
