The area in green is likely more fertile and probably had higher concentrations of cotton farms, hence the higher population of African American voters even years after slavery ended. Fascinating stuff!

This really isn't a terrible map at all. It shows the connection between geology and history / geography / economic activities, etc.

No this is a good map because the ancient shoreline became fertile land, plantations were built, and the blue voters in Alabama are largely descendants of the slaves from these plantations
