/ Howdy folks. A Linux career thread, so please bear with me. Having spent more than a decade working as a Software Developer, the last 6 of which were as a Senior DotNet Developer in Financial Services, I'm considering investing as much of my time as possible to…

/ …increase my knowledge of my main computing passion, Linux. At work there are some huge structural changes looming and for some of our team will mean big changes to our lives.

/ Because of this I have been seriously considering taking this opportunity to switch to a career working with Linux. In 1999 I installed my first Linux, Caldera OpenLinux (v2.1 I believe).

/ It was painful but it hooked me, and since then I have been a Linux user and open source advocate in general. I have distro hopped for years, but for almost anything that I do I use CentOS or Ubuntu.

/ Back in the day I went through the fascinating experience of LFS, BLFS and ALFS to get a good understanding of how Linux is built but I am in no way an expert. I undertook an HND and Degree in Computing in the mid 00's.

/ The HND concentrated, to a large degree, on Systems and Networking (Linux and Windows) and was very hands on, but as I say, was taken 10-15 years ago.

/ At work I have been the main driving force towards gettings 3 CentOS servers and 1 Ubuntu server in service in an otherwise Windows only ecosystem, and currently I am the sole maintainer. They're connected to AD and host a database as well as a number of other important…

/ …jobs and services that the company uses everyday, and as yet (I may regret saying this) they have not failed once since their setup in 2016. So here I am, thinking about my next steps and I don't know where to go from here.

/ I've got tonnes to learn, and as such I am going to sign up to @linuxacademyCOM and spend as much time as I can learning new stuff, and concentrating on the areas I think are important. So, my questions: My goal is to attain a mid level Linux cert but which do I choose?

/ LPI, Linux Foundation or CompTIA? What else do I need to know or do to move to a career as a Linux Administrator and what level do I start at with my experience? How do I break in to this part of the industry?

/ I would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance, or any feedback at all to be honest. If you know someone who may have some advice it would be awesome if you'd perhaps point them in the direction of this thread.
