Twitter: Maybe if people can't like stuff they'll stop being racist and hateful. Sane Person: Couldn't they just retweet? Twitter: Maybe we'll have to take that away too. Sane Person: That destroys the platform! Twitter: This is a tough one. Maybe if we took away the checkmark?

Sane Person: How about you just police the hate speech and threats! Twitter: No no. We can't tell the difference between threats and speech. Sane Person: While we're at it, how about a damned edit feature? Twitter: No no. We'll just remove the like feature....

@Twitter @jack this isn't a good idea, not everyone wants to debate on here, some ppl enjoy a person's post, like it and then move on... if you choose to remove the like button, then then fun will eventually go away

You could just tell people that you like a post, with words. People used to have to do that, it wasn't terrible

So if there is no debate, a simple friendly acknowledgement will suffice...? Interesting idea.

If only there was such a thing! I know! Perhaps Twitter will install a button that automatically fills in a reply such as "I like this, but have absolutely nothing to contribute other than my admiration." I'm going to ask

No, pls dont If you absolutely must do it for the sake of "improving the quality of debate" you can maybe remove likes for replies *only* or, much better, make the likes on replies less visible If you totally remove it then people's notifications will be filled! with "I agree"
