    If this information was retained, if the output image had a pixel border to account for that, then the image could be restored. In fact, any convolution can be undone, except the "zero convolution", which has zeroes for every value.

    I found an infuriating puzzle in one of Peter Winkler’s books. I found it infuriating because: a) The solution is incredibly simple; b) I didn’t think of it. Given two potatoes, prove that you can draw a closed loop on each so that both loops are the same shape in 3D space.
